DMCA and Removal Requests

ISBNLab respects the intellectual property rights of others and responds to notices of alleged copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. § 512. This page also explains how to ask us to correct or remove a book record for reasons other than copyright.

What we publish

ISBNLab publishes factual bibliographic information about books, such as ISBNs, titles, authors, publishers, and publication dates, compiled from publicly accessible sources. Some pages may also display cover images or descriptive text. If you believe that material appearing on ISBNLab infringes your copyright, you may submit a copyright notice using the process below.

Filing a copyright notice

Your notice must include:

1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on their behalf.
2. Identification of the copyrighted work you claim is infringed.
3. Identification of the material you want removed, including the URL of each page where it appears on ISBNLab.
4. Your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
5. A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
6. A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.

Notices that are missing these elements may not be actionable. When we receive a valid notice, we will remove or disable access to the identified material as required by applicable law, and, where applicable, will make a reasonable effort to notify the affected party.

Filing a counter-notice

If material was removed or disabled and you believe that was the result of mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to our designated agent that includes:

1. Your physical or electronic signature.
2. Identification of the material that was removed or disabled and the location where it appeared before removal.
3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
4. Your name, address, and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you are outside the United States, any judicial district in which ISBNLab may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice or their agent.

Where the DMCA's counter-notification procedures apply, we may restore the material in 10 to 14 business days unless the person who sent the original notice tells us they have filed a court action seeking to restrain the activity in question. Where those procedures do not apply, we will review the counter-notice and respond as appropriate.

Misrepresentations

Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), anyone who knowingly makes a material misrepresentation in a notice or counter-notice may be liable for damages. If you are unsure whether material infringes your rights, consider consulting a lawyer before sending a notice.

Repeat infringers

ISBNLab is not a host for user-uploaded media. Where our service does allow a user to submit material, we will terminate that user's account or access, in appropriate circumstances, if they repeatedly infringe the copyrights of others.

Other removal and correction requests

This process is separate from the copyright process above. Use the DMCA process for copyright complaints. For everything else, such as correcting an inaccurate record, removing personal information, or excluding a record from training data access, email dmca@isbnlab.com with "Removal request" in the subject. Include the URL or ISBN of each record and explain what you would like changed. We review every request.

When we approve a removal or exclusion request, the change will apply to the ISBNLab website and API, including data made available for training purposes.
